I use Google Sketchup for woodworking projects and home DIY project visualization and design (e.g. our home theater chairs riser and how the room will look with various approaches to apply acoustic panels on the walls). I found it easy enough to navigate in the product using a mouse, as with the middle button you can click and hold it down while moving the mouse to use the Orbit tool to reorient your view in Sketchup.
How do you do a middle mouse button click and hold, and drag, on an Apple Trackpad? The answer turns out to be: you cannot. :-( You can still get the functionality of the Orbit tool, you just have to set up your trackpad properly, and press a keyboard shortcut first. Here's how:

First, go into System Preferences on your Macbook, select Trackpad, and on the Point & Click tab, ensure Three finger drag is enabled.
Then in Sketchup, when you want to Orbit, click the 'W' key to select the Orbit tool, then use three fingers on your Trackpad to orbit around the view.
Same thing with the Hand tool: click the 'H' key to select the Hand tool, then three finger drag on the Trackpad to move around.
To go back to the Select tool, hit the spacebar.
Another useful shortcut to Zoom: press the 'Z' key, then use a two-finger drag up to zoom in, or down to zoom out.
